Gogo of the Day

Last but by no means least, we introduce Evelyn, our youngest Gogo and with her long legs, she does just that! Unlike the other cyclists, she got her first bike at age 6 and fondly remembers her Dad running alongside as she learned to ride the two wheeler, holding the back of the seat to keep her upright. Perhaps it is this spirit that drives her passion for running alongside people in extreme need. Evelyn was inspired to embark on this, her first long distance ride, by the adventure and challenge but mostly by the incredible work taking place at MCF. “Extending myself to others causes me to take stock of my own life, and to truly appreciate what I have. This enhances my life”. Evelyn trained for this ride by cycling “the long way” to and from work and pushing herself a little more each day and incorporating at least one nasty hill into her daily commute. She has put 2000 km’s on her bike this year, almost all in the city of Calgary with the occasional bonus of a highway ride with Shirley and the three training rides with the Gogos. When asked how she and her cycling partners will fare against the other men participating in Hot Pursuit 2010 she said “Well, we aren't one of the elite teams, so we aren't really competing against the other teams. Besides that, the babushkas and aprons create too much wind resistance to allow us to be properly competitive with them.”
